Ten goals, a first-half shootout, and a Miami side that eventually leaned on its stars: this was Matchday 16 at its most unhinged. Inter Miami beat Philadelphia Union 6–4 at Nu Stadium on Sunday evening in a game that produced eight goals before halftime and never really slowed down. The scoreline flatters no one defensively, but Miami's attacking depth — five different scorers, xG of 5.1 — was the difference on a night when both goalkeepers were essentially spectators.
Philadelphia struck first through Mile Iloski, who converted a Westfield assist in the third minute and then doubled up from the spot on ten after D. St. Clair was booked for the foul that conceded the penalty. Miami answered almost immediately: Germán Berterame finished a Messi pass on 13, and after Damiani restored Philadelphia's two-goal cushion on 20, the hosts responded with a torrent. Luis Suárez pulled one back on 29 from Fray's assist, Berterame headed his second on 41 — again teed up by Messi — and Suárez completed the first-half turnaround on 44. There was still time for a VAR-confirmed penalty on the stroke of halftime, dispatched once more by Iloski for his hat trick, sending the sides in level at 4–4.
The second half was calmer, if only by comparison. Miami's possession dominance (64%) started to tell, and the introduction of Mateo Silvetti for Messi on 73 didn't loosen the grip. Suárez completed his own hat trick on 81, finishing a Berterame assist to make it 5–4, and Rodrigo De Paul capped the night in the 90th minute, converting another Silvetti delivery to seal the six.
The discipline column is one for Miami's coaching staff to revisit — six yellow cards, including late bookings for Allen and Luján — but the offensive output papers over plenty. Suárez leaves with the match ball, Berterame with two goals and an assist, and Messi with two assists in 73 minutes. Philadelphia, despite 21 shots and Iloski's treble, head home with nothing and questions to answer about a back line that shipped six.
